Tom is a 28-year-old penguin at the Nanchang University of Sciences. Because of his old age, he was going bald(光秃的), which made him feel too cold to swim in the pool. Therefore, scientists at the college had created a wetsuit（潜水服） for this penguin to help him get back in the swimming pool. Unlike other animals, which have a layer(层)of blubber(油脂) to keep them warm, penguins depend on side of the pool while another 19 penguins played in the water.
“He was cold, he would shake(摇晃).” said Pam Schaller, a scientist, Schaller first tried a heat lamp to keep Tom warm. Then she got another idea: if wetsuits keep humans warm in cold climates, why not make one for Tom? Schaller designed the suit, which covered Tom’s body and had small openings for his feet. “I would walk behind him and see if the wetsuit would fit him well. If not, I would cut and refit（整修）until it was very suitable.” she said.
One problem was that the other penguins would refuse Tom in his new suit, but in fact, they accepted his new look. He swam freely and got along with others well, although he was the only penguin with a black stomach. Schaller couldn’t say surely whether the wetsuit allowed Tom to grow his fine feathers again, but certainly we were able to keep him comfortable during the special time.
Tom will take off his suit after his new feathers grow back.

Children are natural scientists, very interested in the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there’s no need for a lot of scientific terms（科学术语）or modern labs. You only have to share your children’s interests.
Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-old children. The children asked me textbook questions about schooling, the money I got and whether I liked my job. When I finished answering, we sat facing each other silently. Finally I said, “Now that（既然） we’ve finished , do you have questions of your own about science?” After a long wait, a boy put up his hand, “Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢) eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomachache. Why?” This began a lot of questions that lasted nearly two hours.
Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, many teachers usually wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When teachers increase their “wait time” to three seconds or more, children give better answers. But in talking about science, these words make a child think that the discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying, “That’s interesting” or “I’ve never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas.
Lastly, show, don’t tell. Let children look at their hands through a microscope（显微镜）, and they’ll understand why you want them to wash before dinner.

B. Wait for one or two seconds after a question.
C. Tell them to watch their language.
D. Wait at least three seconds after a question.
85. What is probably the writer of the passage ?
A. A teacher B.A scientist C. A seven-year-old boy’s father D. A reporter

I recently surveyed my classmates about their views on whether parents can be friends. According to the survey, 45% of the students in our class think it impossible to make friends with their parents as they’re always too busy to show their concern. On the other hand, 55% of the students believe they can make friends with their parents because their parents often talk with them like friends at home . In my opinion, it’s just natural for parents and children to be friends so long as they trust each other, the parents often talk with their children and know how to share.
