Welcome to the unit

Teaching aims and demands:

1.To talk about Ss‘ dream homes.

2.To recognize the architectures in different

countries.

3. To know how to express different countries and their capitals in English.

Teaching Important and Difficult Points:

How to ask and answer about different countries

and their capitals in English.

New words: dream, palace, capital

Teaching methods: task-based approach

Teaching task:

1. To talk about cities and countries.

2. Have a discussion in groups, and talk about their dream homes.

3. Write articles about students‘ dream homes.

Teaching aids: tape recorder

Teaching procedures:

Ⅰ. Warm-up (presentation)

1. Ask if any students have lived in another country. Elicit from students ideas about an ideal place to live.

2.Do a mini-survey. Ask students which is their favourite place to live.

Ⅱ. Listening

Listen to the tape, answer my question, Which is Eddie‘s favourite place to live? Help the Ss to answer.

Listen again, Ss read after the tape recorder, then act it out.

1. Ask questions: How many countries do you

know?

Can you tell us the names of the countries?

2. Show the map of the world to the students and

teach the different countries

Step 1 Warm-up

1. Ask some students to report their homework

about dream homes.

2. Show a photo about their own homes or rooms

and say something about them.

Step 2 Presentation

1. Use the pictures to teach the new words.

To revise the cardinal numbers and use them to talk about telephone

numbers.

To use the ordinal numbers to talk about the dates, the scores and

results。

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Revision

Step 2. Cardinal numbers

Revise the cardinal numbers. Teach the students more cardinal numbers. Write these words and numbers on the blackboard. Step3. Practice

Write some numbers on the blackboard and ask the students to read them in English.

Go to P14, and ask the students to read the cardinal numbers and finish B1 by themselves. Ask the students to listen to the teacher, and write down the numbers: 598, 7493,…

Step 4. Telephone numbers

1. Tell the students your telephone number in English, and see whether they can write it down in numbers.

Step 5 . Writing checks

1. To P12, Ask the students to finish it in pairs. Read these numbers to each other.

Step 6 . Ordinal numbers

1. Revise the ordinal numbers by talking about dates and birthdays. Write down some words on the blackboard. (first, second, third, fifth, eighth, ninth, twelfth, fifteenth, twentieth, twenty-fourth)

Step one presentation

Show a picture of a palace, encourage the students to com- plete the following exercise.

When we pronounce words of more than one syllable, we stress one of the syllables. The stressed syllable sounds stronger.This makes spoken English sound like music. The stress can be on the first, middle or last syllable of a word.
