UNIT 2 I can do it
Good afternoon, everyone,
I'm very glad to stand here to interpret my lesson, the lesson I'm going to talk about is from Unit 2 Book
1. The main content of this Unit is “I can do it” I have decided to say this lesson from six parts:Analysis of the teaching material and students;The teaching methods;The learning methods; The teaching procedures; Blackboard design and Self-assessment;
Now I’ll say it in details
Part One —— Analysis of the Teaching Material and Students
This part includes five sections: Section one status and function; Section two teaching aims; Section three Important and difficult points; Section four analysis of the students; Section five teaching aids Section One: Status and Function
This lesson is taken from Unit 2 I can do it of Book One. It is the first period of this lesson, including two parts:Lead in &listening and speaking. The main content of this period is “I can do it”
Such a topic is very important in this unit. I will lead the students to use their imagination and
encourage them to be creative .an the same time , I’ll teach them how to use some words and sentence patterns that can describe one’s ability , that is , how to use the model verb “can” correctly. This period plays an important role in the whole teaching of this unit, so I think if the students can learn this lesson well, it will be helpful to make them learn the rest of this unit.
While teaching them, I will also encourage them to say something about what they can do in the daily life. In a way, from practicing such a topic, it can be helpful to raise learning interests of students and it will be also helpful to improve their speaking ability and increase their confidence. .
Section Two: Teaching Aims
The teaching aims are established according to this lesson’s status and function, combining the students’ studying level.
1. Knowledge objects
(1) The students can master some words and phrases that can describe one’s ability.such as: speak Chinese, drive cars, repair computers, teach English, read in Chinese, serve customers.
(2) The students can master some sentence patterns, such as:
Can you say something about yourself?
Can you sing English songs?
Well, I can teach English and I can speak a little Chinese.
2. Ability objects
(1) The students can describe one’s ability in English
(2) The students can make a dialogue about describing ability correctly.
3. Moral objects
To cultivate the students' ability of appreciating oneself and appreciating others.
Section Three: Teaching Important and Difficult Points
1. Important points:
The students can master the basic usage of the model verb "can"
2. Difficult points:
The students can use the model verb “can” correctly.
Section Four: Analysis of the students
The students in Grade one of Vocational School are mostly about 15-16 years old, they like to show-off, so this lesson is good for them to show their ability. But as Vocational School students , they are afraid of making mistakes, so this lesson aims to arouse their interests and motivation in learning English. Section Five: Teaching Aids
In this lesson, I will present my new lesson with the help of multimedia computer and some cards, which can help the students learn the new lesson more easily.
Part Two —— The Teaching Methods
As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Situational” teaching method, “Task-based” teaching method ,group work and pair work
teaching method and four skills . Situational teaching method based on student-centered is an active teaching method. It can make the students take part in the lesson actively; By using “Task-based” teaching method, I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities, like talking, discussing, and acting in pairs.
In a word, I want to make the students the real masters in class while the teacher herself acts as director. I also hope to combine the language structures with the language functions and let the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.
Part Three ——The Learning Methods
During the teaching procedures, I always pay attention to the students learning methods, I often create some situations to make the students be active in learning English, and I also make the students the real masters in class while the teacher herself acts as director. So I adopt the following learning methods: group
competitive method; cooperation study method; Independent study method and collective discussion method.
Part Four —— Teaching Procedures
As this lesson plays an important part in the English teaching of this unit, I have decided the following steps to train their ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing, especially listening and speaking ability.
There five steps, they are:Preparation; Presentation; Practice; Production and Progress
At the beginning of this lesson, the teacher and the students make a short conversation in English, greet each other by using the greetings that they have learnt last unit and lead in the new lesson. In this part, have the students say more about “I can..., I can’t...”. In this way, they will know today’s lesson has something to do with our conversation.
First I will play a game “Facts or lies” with the students, I will present some things that I can do, and I also present two or three things that I can’t do. Then let the students find out which one I can do and which one I can’t do. By doing this, I can draw the students’ attention and interests
Second, I will give each student a card, let them write down their abilities and strong points, then ask some students to read what he wrote in front of the class. In this way, I can train the students writing and speaking ability , increase the students’ confidence and courage and make the students find his or her own strong points.
At last, I’ll collect all the cards, and choose five of them freely , play a game “Guess who I am” with the students. I will read the abilities on the card, let the students guess who I describe. By playing a game, I can draw the students’ attention, at the same time, doing this can make them know each other better and appreciate each other.
This part is also about Important and Difficult Points Learning
First, at the beginning of this part, I will show the students a group of words and phrases by power point, then ask the students to describe one person, using the sentence pattern “He/She/They can ?”let the students know how to use the model verb“can”correctly. To present the language points by PPT is much easier for the students to learn and grasp the sentence patterns, and trains the students’ speaking ability.
Second I will divide the students into four groups and asks each group to write down what they can do on the blackboard in the given time. The group that offers the most phrases about abilities will be the winner. Group competition is good for training the students teamwork spirit and competitive spirit.Writing on the blackboard is not only good for training the students’ writing ability but also good for increasing the students’ courage.
At this part, first I will let the students learn the dialogue A on page 24 in pairs and master the main sentence pattern:
Can you say something about yourself?
I can teach English and I can speak a little Chinese.
Second I will divide the whole class into two big groups, the first group is low level students, the second group is better level students. Then , ask the first group make a dialogue to describe his or her own ability, ask the second group make a dialogue to describe his or her parents’ or friends’ ability. By dividing the different level groups , I can let the different students master the language point that he or she should master.
Step 5 Progress
At this part, first I will make a short summary of this lesson ,then I will assign homework to the students . The homework includes three level:Basic exercise---Remember and copy the useful sentences .I can speak Chinese. I can drive cars I can repair computers..., Extend exercise-----Recite the dialogue (activity6) Expand exercise-----Make a similar dialogue.
Part Five —— Blackboard Designing
Presents the text key content clearly on the blackboard, favors the students to knowledge grasping.
That's all for my interpretation, thank you for your attention!
