Both my wife and I were out of work. However, I said, “Sure”, giving them a quarter each. They went away, leaving only fifty cents(美分) left in my pocket.
A petting zoo is made up of a hundred of little baby animals of all kinds. Kids pay their money and stay in the enclosure(围场) happily with the little animals while their parents shop.
A few minutes later, I saw my daughter walking along behind me. I was surprised and asked what was wrong.
She said sadly, “Well, Daddy, a ticket for Petting Zoo costs fifty cents. So I gave Robbie my quarter.” Then she said the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. She repeated the family motto(座右铭), which is “Love is Action!” I knew clearly no one loves little animals more than Susan. She had watched both my wife and me do and say “Love is Action!” for years, and now she had put it into her lifestyle. It had become part of her, because she knew the whole family motto. It’s not only “Love is Action”; it’s “Love is SACRIFICIAL(牺牲的) Action!” Love always pays a price.
I was moved. We went back to the Petting Zoo. Susan stood with her hands and chin(下巴) resting on the fence and just watched Robbie go crazy petting and feeding the animals. I had fifty cents burning a hole in my pocket. I put my hand into my pocket and took out the money. Sure, I must do that!

On June 26, 2000, two scientists, called Francis Collins and Craig Venter, told the world that they could now read the whole “map” of the human body:
DNA. DNA is something that everybody has, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the
reason that we look like our mother and father, because we get
some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a
long time. In 1860, Gregor Mendel discovered a special reason
why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because
of small things named in our body. In 1953, James
Watson and Francis Crick made another discovery and found out
that those small parts are real messages written in the DNA with a
In 1961, Marshall Nirenberg and Johann Matthaei found a message in DNA showing how DNA tells the cell (细胞) to build its parts. Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one “word” means, we can help save more people from several illnesses.
Most people hope that this will help make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when people begin to know more words and find out lots of other information, we might use it in a wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people from getting jobs. Man would have to meet a lot of trouble if DNA technic(技术) wasn’t in control.
58. When did we first know why we look like other people in our family?

A. The “map” of DNA. B. A new illness.
C. The language of DNA. D. A message of DNA.
61. What can we do if we understand some “words” of the language inside the body?
A. Make people get new jobs. B. Make medicine for illnesses.
C. Make maps of human. D. Make people less attractive.
Born in 1955 in Los Altos CA, Steve Jobs (乔布斯), with Steve Wozniak, founded Apple Computer Corporation and became a multimillionaire(巨富) before the age of 30.

After Jobs sold over $ 20 million of his Apple products, he spent days bicycling along the beach, and toured Paris and Italy feeling sad and lost. Then Jobs thought back on his experience at Apple. Though he was not an engineer, he felt his greatest talent had been spearheading(领头) development of new products. Jobs also took special pride in helping bring personal computers into education. To collect his ideas one day, he took up pen and paper and began to write down the things that were important to him. Along with the development of Macintosh, he did three educational projects: Kids Can't Wait, Apple Education Foundation, and the Apple University Consortium.
After leaving Apple. Jobs' new creative ideas were not in hardware(硬件) but software of the computer industry (产业). In 1989, Jobs tried all over again with a new company called NextStep. He planned to build the next generation(一代) of personal computers that would beat Apple. He failed. After eight years and after spending about $ 250 million, NextStep closed down its hardware division(分店) in 1993.

World Sleep Day, on 21st March, was created to bring attention to the growing number of sleep problems. Sleep is a natural part of human life, but many people in the modern world don’t 6
realize it’s very important. As a result, sleep problems are quite common.
In 2011, scientists at the University of Athens in Greece did a study of over 35,000 people in 10 countries around the world, including China, Belgium and South Africa. Among the people, 24 % said that they did not sleep well, 31.6 %were diagnosed(诊断) with insomnia(失眠). In addition, 30.7 % of them have visited doctors for help with sleep problems and 11.6 percent said that they felt very sleepy during the day.
The study found that many people have poor quality sleep, some examples can’t fall asleep and often wake up in the middle of the night. The main reasons of the problems are stress from school or work and life, but noise pollution and light pollution also affect sleep and cause poor quality sleep. The study also found that large numbers of people find it hard to sleep at night. The short time influences of this are tiredness . If this happens for a long time, the risk(风险) of getting fatter and having a heart problem may increase（增加）.
There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. First, you should have regular sleep habits. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. You also need to make your bedroom a cool, dark, quiet place to sleep so that heat, light and noise do not disturb you. At night, you should also keep away from things that have caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee, tea and many soft drinks, as caffeine may keep you from sleeping.
Getting a good night's sleep is important for everyone. By following the advice above, you can rest better at night and work better during the day.
