第一课时(The First Period) Look, speak and Listen for Section A

一、Teaching process design

Step 1: Warming up and lead in

Greeting and show students some photos of palmary people such as Yao Ming,Den Yaping,Michael Jordan,David Beckham and so on. Lead in with such questions:

T: Who’s that?

S: That’s Yao Ming.

T: What does he do?

S: He is a basketball player.

T: How tall is he?

S: He is 2.26 meters tall.

T: When was he born?

S: (With the help of the teacher) He was born in1980 in Shanghai, China.

T: What should you do if you want to know the details about Yao Ming?

S: We should surf the Internet to look for his more information.( It may elicit various answers.)

Ask students to work in groups to make a list about international sports stars they know in

Then the teacher focuses on the photos and asks students to listen to the tape and write the

Step 2: Pairwork

Before working in pairs, students should review the information about the four people they admire in 1b. After that, ask students to practice the conversation about Deng Yaping above with the target language. Then follow the sample dialogue to make conversations about the other sports stars:

A: Who’s that?

B: That’s Deng Yaping.

A: What does she do?

B: She is a great Chinese ping-pong player.

A:When was she born?

B:She was born in 1973.

The teacher moves around the classroom and give some help as needed. Ask pairs of students to show their work. Praise them for their excellent work.

Step 3: Look, Listen and Write

2a & 2b provide guided listening and writing practice using the target language. The teacher asks students to look at the chart and be familiar with the content of the chart to make sure they should know what to fill in the chart in 2a. Then ask students to listen to the tape and fill in the

2b while they are listening.Then check the answers with students by asking students some questions like this:

T: Hello, class. May I ask you some questions about Charles Smith?

S: Yes, of course.

T: What does Charles Smith have world recorder for?

S: He has world recorder for hiccupping.

T: How long did he hiccup?

S: He hiccupped for 6 years and 5 months.

T: When did he start? And when did he stop?

S: He started in… and he stopped in….

T: That’s right. Thank you all.

Then ask students to list the past forms of the verbs: hiccup--hiccupped,

neeze—sneezed,start—started,stop—stopped. Teach and read them. (Finish 2b)

Step 4: Practice with pair work

Ask students to make a dialogue by asking and answering questions according to the information in activity 2b in order to start oral practice using the target language with the following sample like this:

A: Hello, B. May I ask you some questions about Donna Green?

B: Yes, of course.

A What does Donna Green have world recorder for?

B: She has world recorder for sneezing.

A: How long did she sneeze?

B: She sneezed for ____ years and ____ months.

A: When did she start? And when did she stop?

B: She started in… and she stopped in….

T: That’s right. Thank you .

Then ask students to work in pairs and practice the conversation above. While students are working, the teacher is moving around the room giving some help as needed. Ask pairs of students to show their works. Praise them for their good works.(finish 2c)

Step 5: Homework

1) Write a report about a famous sports star’s personal information

2) Preview 3a ,3b & 4 on Page 55.

1.record n.记录, establish/make/break a record for….

3.How long 给一段时间提问,谓语只用延续性动词。

4.start= begin doing/todo sth. start—started, begin—began
