【教材分析】

本单元以为"invitations"话题,要求学生掌握如何用Can you.......?结构,在日常生活中发出邀请并能根据实际情况接受或拒绝邀请,进而实现对目标语言的运用,学完本课时后,学生将能谈论自己或别人必须做的事情并能根据计划安排自己的活动,SectionA 1a围绕思维、1b听力、1c会话三方面对句型进行训练。2a对情态动词can和can't的用法进行训练的基础上介绍回答目标语言的不同方式2b,2c是对目标语言的综合运用。

Step1:Lead-in

Play the "Happy birthday to you" song for students, and ask: Do you like this song? Can you sing it?

Good, tomorrow is my birthday. I want to have a party. Can you come to my party ? and write it on the blackboard. And say: Today let's learn unit5 Can you come to my party? I invite my friends to my party. Do you want to know my friends? Yes.

Step2.Presentation.

T: Show the picture of Section A. Now, let's look at the picture and see how many good friends I have. Ss: One , two, three ......seven.

T: Good , I have seven good friends, but do you want to know their names ?Please listen to the tape and then tell me their names .

Play the tape for students.

T; Ok, who can tell me the names?

S; Ted , Wilson, Kay, Tim, Anna ,Jenny and Carlos.

T: Great. Teach students to read the names.

Step3 Vocabulary and Listening

Show students the picture on page 1, and ask students to look at the picture first and find out Jenny and Ted.

T: What did Ted say?

S: He said ,"I'm sorry, I can't. I have to help my parents."

T: And how about Jenny?

Ask students to match the words with the pictures .Then check the answers.

T: Just now we matched the pictures with the actions, but who are going to do those? Let's go on with 1b.Listen and write the names next to each person.

Play the tape once again and then check the answers.

Step4 Pair work

T: Well , class !How many people are going to my party ?Can Tim go to my party?

S: No, he can't. He has to study for a test.

Good. Ask some students to read 1c.Then tell students to make conversations according to the sample conversation. Remind them to give a reason if they say no to the invitation.

Step5 Listening

T: In this listening part, there are five conversations. Call attention to the five sentences in activity 2a.Ask a student to read these sentences to the class. Play the tape for the first time. Students only listen. Then another time, ask students to circle the right answers. Then check the answers.

T: Jeff and May can't go to the party, what are the reasons? Let's listen again and do activity 2b.Play the tape and ask students to fill in the three numbers as they listen.

Play the tape again and check the answers.

Step6 Groupwork

Call attention to the reasons listed in activity 2b.Ask students to think of other reasons to say no and write them in the blanks.

Then ask student A , invite your partner to do something. Student B, say you can't do it and give a reason. Sample conversation:

A: Can you have a picnic with me ?

B: I'm sorry. I have to babysit my little sister.

A: What about next Monday?

B: I can't , either. I am having a math lesson.......

Ask some pairs of students to present their conversations to the class.

Step7Grammar Focus

1.Can可以用来表示邀请他人做什么,对别人的邀请我们可以接受或拒绝,拒绝时要说明原因。有人邀请你时,你乐意接受,你应该说:

Sure! I'd love to.或Sure! I'd like to。注意 to不能省略,I'd=I would。

如果不能接受,我们可以说;

Thank you very much for your invitation.或Thanks for asking,接下来应该说明理由。如:I have to help my sister.

2.have to必须,不得不,表责任、义务。第三人称为has to。

have to 与 must 的区别 have to 是客观需要,而must是说话人的主观看法

I have to get up early in the morning. We must work hard.

继续学习Can you.......?结构发出邀请并能根据实际情况接受或拒绝邀请 ,创设情景让几位学生邀请他人参加,这必然会用到上节课所学知识,再次口头上巩固所学内容,同时提供交流机会,让学生展示自己,有成就感,从而提高兴趣,学生既复习旧知识,又提高了口语交际能力。

Step1 Revision

列举出拒绝邀请的几种表达法,如:I have a violin lesson. I have to go to the doctor. I’m going shopping 检查所学内容。

Step 2 Presentation

T:We learned how to give , accept and decline invitations .But if we want to invite lots of people and we don’t have enough time, what shall we do ?

Ss: Call him , ask other’s help ,write a letter, send an e-mail and send an invitation card.

T: Great. You have so many ways. Today we will learn how to write an invitation card. First look at the card in 3a.

Task1: List different ways to invite people.

Task2: Look at the card and answer following question:

T: What must we write on the card?

Ss: Time, place, from or for whom, event and invitation.

通过学习了解邀请卡的内容,学会写邀请卡.

Step 3 Pairwork (3a)

Task 1. First let Ss read the notice from the principal .

2. Read the dialogue to the class saying blank when come to a

blank line .

3. Get Ss read the notice again and fill in the blanks .

4. Correct the answers in class. Then read the conversation together.

Step 4. Practice (3b)

Task 1:Make an invitation card.

T: Try to imagine an event and fill in the card with details of an event.

S: Students imagine events and fill in the chart alone. Two of them write down their card on

the Bb. Ask several students to read out their cards.

Task 2.Invite each other to the event according to their invitation cards

A: Hi ,B. Call you go to the baseball game ?

B: When is it ?

A: It’s on Saturday ,June 10, at 7:00 pm.

B: Where is it ?

A: It’s in Hong Shan Stadium.

B: Great, I’d love to.

Step 5. Presentation

Step 2 Look at the form (1a )

1. Ask the students to read the days of the week aloud .

2. Point to the number showing the dates of the current week and ask students to copy these numbers into

the calendar in their books .

3. Ask students to read each day’s date to the class . For example : It’s Monday , the 20th .

Step 3 Practicing

Step 4 Presentation

T: In the movie, the friends are talking about the invitation. Here we have another friend, Vince. Look at the picture of (2a) on page 4. What is he doing?

S: He is talking on the phone.

T: What is he talking?

S: Maybe he is inviting his friends to play games.

T: Maybe you are right. Now let’s listen to the tape and check it.

For the first time, you just listen and for the second time, you should answer these questions “ Can Vince play tennis with Andy? Why?”

(Ss listen to the tape and check the answer.)

T: Can Vince play tennis with Andy?

S: No, he can’t.

T: Why?

S: Because Vince is very busy this week.

T: That’s right. He has to go to the doctor, have a piano lesson ,play soccer, study for a test and babysit his sister today, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Now look at the chart, listen again and match Vince’s invitation with the days.

(Listen to the tape and check the answer.)

T: So what is Vince going to today?

S: Going to the doctor and studying for a test.

T: What is he going to do tomorrow?

S: He is going to play soccer and have a piano lesson tomorrow.

T: What about the day after tomorrow?

S: He has to babysit his sister the day after tomorrow.

Step 5 Consolidation

编写对话,巩固句型。

T: From this dialogue, we know Vince is very busy, so he can’t play tennis with Andy. But how can he decline, now make a similar dialogue in pairs, one is Andy , while the other is Vince. Like this:

A: Hi, Vince! Can you play tennis with me?

B: When?

A: Today … …

B: Sorry, I can’t. I … …

Ask a few students to act their dialogue to the class .

Step 6 Practicing

T: Now it’s time for relaxing. Let’s have a party. This time you are the hosts or hostesses of the party. And first you have to plan it---What are you going to do next week? When are you going to have a party? So please write everything you have to do next week on the calendar on page 4, then invite your classmates to your party. Are you clear?

S: Yes.

T: Fill in the calendar.

(After Ss finishing filling the calendar, ask several Ss to share their plans, then they can invite any classmates they like.)
