One day last year I went to a small but beautiful lake. The lake before me, blue and peaceful. I sat down by the side of the lake, my shoes and socks, and put my feet into the water. It was cold, like ice. After a moment I bent over (弯下身子) and got some of the onto my hot face. I could see in the water looking at me like a stranger. We moved to a beautiful two-storey old house. The house was built in 1905. It was repaired in 1997. At first, really small things began to happen that didn't make me believe that anything was wrong, but as time went on, the things started becoming stranger and stranger. Early on, something would turn up missing, and later would be found somewhere else. I just thought I had forgotten where I put it, or perhaps my daughter was playing around with things. Then later on I would hear strange sounds when nobody was at home but me... yet it was an old home, and sometimes old homes did make little noises, so again, I don’t really mind.
Then things that I couldn’t explain started happening. It was last November and I was at home alone
cleaning house. When I was sweeping the kitchen floor, I felt a very cold wind blew my hair. I thought the
kitchen window must have been opened, but when I checked it, it was closed and locked. The windows were new, and there was no way any cold air came in.
We all felt very strange and moved away from there in October 2002. I was never really frightened. It was just strange, like something or someone was trying to reach out and get my attention or something. ( )66. The house is _____ years old. A. about 97 B. more than 100 C. over 200

Dear Mr. Know,
My 13-year-old son was in an accident several days ago. His doctors say he has no chance of seeing again. I have no experience with the blind (盲的). I want to know how he may behave in the future. I want to know everything I can to help him. Please help!
My son, Trey, who is nine years old, also lost his vision (视力) suddenly. I think one of the most important things for you to do is to find other blind kids of your son’s age in your area. He will need someone to talk to that understands his situation and can give him some advice. Sometimes, other kids treat your son differently, and it takes time, experience, and patience to learn the best ways of dealing with this. But if your son had another successful, blind teenager to talk to, that person could tell him how they dealt with the same situations. Also, often talk to the doctor so that they can show your son how to get around safely. Learning to use assistant technology(辅助技术) and Braille(盲人用的点字法) are also extremely important. Where I live, we have a place called Envision that offers these services. Check around for something similar in your area. I hope I have been of some help.

There are many things we need to know that we do not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of the things in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands(品牌). We need to know how to make a choice when we shop.
Knowing how to make such choices is a “life skill”, and we need these skills if we are to live useful and happy lives.
Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I go to school by bus or on foot? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it is tastier? Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make choices like this every day.
We have to realize that the choices we make can affect the rest of our lives. Just as importantly, our choices can also affect other people. The next time you decide to waste time in class, play a joke on someone or talk loudly at the movies, think about this: Who else does your choice affect? ( )81.
