Making friends is a skill. Like most skills, it improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing（乐意） to take some actions. You must first go where there are people. You won’t make friends staying home alone.
Join a club or group, talking with those who like the same things you do is much easier. Or join someone in some activities.
Many people are nervous when talking to new people. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it’s human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown.
Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are giving an opinion about us-finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don’t forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept ourself as you are, and try to put the other person at ease(不拘束). You’ll both feel more comfortable.
Try to keep self-confident even when you don’t feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall(挺直腰杆，不低三下四)and straight, look directly at other people and smile.
If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t wait for the other person to start a conversation.
Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person——friendship is based on each other’s liking and “give and take”. They take time and efforts to develop. And there are things that keep a new friendship from growing.
44. If you want to meet people and make friends, what should you do?
A. Join a club or group.
B. Talk with those who like the same things.
C. Join someone in some activities.
D. All of the above.
45. How do you feel more comfortable when you are with new people?
A. Shake hands with others.
B. Accept yourself as you are, and put the other as ease.
C. Don’t talk with those who you don’t like.
D. Walk tall and straight.
46. If you’d like to speak to someone, what should you do?
A. You should wait until the person says something.
B. You should stay home alone.
C. You should cough until the person notices you.
D. You should say something at first.
47. Friendship is based on______.
A. meeting for the first time
B. each other’s liking and “give and take”
C. keeping self-confident
D. facing the unknown
Televisions were among the most talked-about things at CES 2013—the 2013 International Consumer Electronic Show (国际消费类电子产品展销会) last week in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were bigger and better with some of the highest technology. Some TVs used a new technology called OLED. Ultra High Definition TVs were also popular. Most of the TVs shown on the exhibition used 4k technology.

On the first day of school our professor introduced himself and asked us to get to know someone we didn’t know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. “Hi, girl! My name is Rose, I’m 87 years old.”
“Why are you in college at such a young age?” I asked jokingly.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!”she replied. Rose became a college symbol this year, and almost everyone likes to make friends with her.
At the end of the term we invited Rose to speak at our football party. I’ll never forget what she taught us.
“We do not stop playing because we are old, we grow old because we stop playing. There are only two secrets to staying young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humour every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose you dreams, you die!” she said.
“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do anything, you will turn 20 years older. If I am 87 years old, and stay in bed for a year, and never do anything, I will turn 88. Anybody can grow older. But every minute counts for young men,” she added.
She ended her speech by singing The Song of Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics (歌词) and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year’s end, Rose finished the college education she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

B. The more you laugh, the younger you will be.
C. People easily become old if they do more things.
D. Time is especially important for young people.
54. At the end of her speech, Rose asked each of her classmates _______.
A. to sing along with her B. to sing one’s own song
C. to recite the lyrics D. to do as the lyrics said
55. Which of the following can best describe the story?

Some people prefer to make friends with people who are very much like them while
others prefer friends who are very different. There are advantages to both types of friendship. If a
man chooses a friend similar to himself, there is no problem that they will share many common
interests. They may have similar goals in life. This means that they will be able to help each other
in achieving their goals. Two people who are very similar will feel comfortable with each other
and may understand each other' s feelings better. Their friendship may be deeper and last longer.
There are also many advantages of making friends with someone of opposite interests and
even character. In this type of friendship, the two people complement (补充) each other. If one is
weak in some ways, the other is strong. While two people with similar goals may find themselves
in competition, hut those who want different things can always support each other. Those who
have different interests can introduce each other to new experience and so enrich (丰富) their

Listen up, boys and girls. Today I’ll tell you something about Mrs Smith and her club. Mrs Smith is 70 years old. She has a club. It’s a walking club. There are now ten people in the club, and most of them are old people like her. The people walk two miles a day. They walk very
quickly because that is a good way to keep healthy. When it is too cold to walk outside in winter, they have to walk in the club building. They all wear T-shirts with these words, “I Love Walking”. Something interesting happened one day. A dog began to walk after them. Soon, two more dogs joined in. Now the walking club has both people and dogs walking every day.
