Unit 7 Seasons

Period 5 Integrated skills

Teaching objectives:

1. To learn how to get the key information and make notes according to the listening

2. To learn to talk about weather in different seasons and places.

Important and difficulties:

Words: wind around degree bit loud ring

Phrases: turn more cloudy in the thirties the rest of a bit

sentences: How are you doing?

The wind is blowing hard.

Teaching approaches and aids: a tape-recorder, PPT

Teaching procedures:

Step1 Warm up

Speech competition : Ask two students to come to the front , face us and give us their short talks about his or her favourite season, we should ask the two students on the same English-learning level form two different groups , and then decide which is better , then give the better one a point for their group . (if they are both nice ,then give them both a point )

Step2Autonomous learning

1. Study objectives and skills

Just follow the teachers teaching steps and try to catch the key words from the listening material.

Step 3 Presentation

1. Give a short introduction:

Mr Wu is giving the students the weather reports for different seasons in Beijing. Help them write the possible season under each report.

2. SB P87 A1 Go over the reports and try to understand them.

Step4 Listening

Self-study instruction:

1) Listen carefully.(Twice) Complete the table.

2) When you finish, check the answers in your group. And then, show me green.

Play the tape for students to listen and check whether you chose the correct answers in part A1.

Step 5 Listening

1. Short introduction:

Annie is writing about the weather in different places in her diary entry. Listen to her conversation with Simon and help her complete her diary entry.

2. SB P88 A3

Listen and get the answer, then check answers in groups.

Help No.1 and No.2 correct their mistakes.

3.Read the passage together.

Step 6 Speak up

Self-study instructions:

1) Listen and get information you need.

Question: What’s the weather like in Beijing and Nanjing?

2) Read the dialogue loudly by yourselves.

3) Make up a new dialogue with your partner and try to act it out

If you've finished, show me green.

Step7 Explanation and Clear up

Maybe the following might be a little difficult or important for some of them:

How are you doing?

How’s the weather in Nanjing?

The wind is blowing hard.

Can you speak louder please?

Step8 Exercises and Feedback

1. Finish the exercises I and II on your answer book individually.

2. Exchange your answer books with your group members and help each other check the answers according to the right answers given.

3. Mark the questions that you failed to give the right answer on your exercise book.

4. Discuss the difficult questions with your group members and try to solve them.

5. The teacher may give some detailed explanation on the important questions.

Step9 Help the slow and Accelerate the fast

Step10 Knowledge construction

Help them to talk about different weather in different seasons and places.

Step11 Minimum homework

1. Finish the rest exercises.

2. Recite Speak up.
