Unit 7 Seasons

Period 7 Task

Teaching objectives:

1. To learn to write the outlines before writing.

2.To learn to write an article about their favourite season.

Important points and difficulties:

Words: deep land exciting throw ice everywhere

Phrases: be covered in deep white snow during this season

throw snowballs at each other use carrots for their noses

Sentences: It is exciting to have big snowball fights.

Teaching approaches and aids: a tape-recorder, PPT

Teaching procedures:

Step1 Warm up

Speech competition: Ask two students to come to the front , face us and give us their short talks about his or her favourtie season, we should ask the two students on the same English-learning level form two different groups , and then decide which is better , then give the better one a point for their group . (if they are both nice ,then give them both a point )

Step2 Autonomous learning

1. Study objectives and skills

1) Read the article and write down the answers to the questions in Part B.

2) Know how to use the useful expressions .

2. Mutual-assistance based problem solving

Ask them to read and use the useful expressions in PA on p90 in groups so as to get ready for the writing . Step3 Presentation

1. Tell the students Simon is reading an article about the winter in Harbin. Let’s listen to the article.

2. Show them questions while listening.

What is Simon’s favourite winter?

What is the weather like in winter in Harbin?

What can people do in winter?

3. Read and underline some important phrases.

Self-study instructions:

1). Work in group.

2). Try to find out the important phrases. Discuss in groups.

3). When all the members in your group finish, show me green.

知者加速:When you finish, try to help other students in your group.

Discussion: 1

Ask them to read the article carefully and try to get the main idea of each paragraph, show them the following table ,talk about it and write their ideas on the blackboard.

Discussion 2:

Stand up and say something about your favourite season and tell the reason.2’

Step 4 Writing and presentation

Write an article by yourself and exchange to correct it. And then do presentation.

Step 5 Exercises and Feedback

1. Finish the exercises I and II on your answer book individually.

2. Exchange your answer books with your group members and help each other check the answers according to the right answers given.

3. Mark the questions that you failed to give the right answer on your exercise book.

4. Discuss the difficult questions with your group members and try to solve them.

5. The teacher may give some detailed explanation on the important questions.

Step 6 Help the slow and Accelerate the fast

Students help each other if they have any difficulties in the exercises

The students who finish fast can learn something new by themselves ( reading material, homework, New Concept Ⅱ)

Step7 Knowledge construction

Step8 Homework checkout

Ask the students to exchange their homework they did last night and correct the mistakes and mark in the exercise book , they can talk and find out the right answer to the mistakes in class .
