Mr. Smith often felt lonely when her husband went to work. The room was small and she always spent only half an hour tidying it. Bargaining is the rule here in Beijing. At least, it is so in most markets and back-street clothes shops. Bargaining is an art and if you are unfamiliar(不熟悉) with it, we'd like to offer you some advice. The tips(窍门) here are often used in Beijing but may help you at any place in the world where bargaining is practiced.
DO NOT say how much you want to pay for an item(物品) unless it’s near the end of the bargaining. Always try and drop the seller's offering price as much as possible before opening your mouth with a price.
DO throw out really low prices like 10 RMB with a big smile.
DO keep smiling from the beginning to the end. The seller usually continues bargaining with a

happy smiling face. Getting angry hardly gets you the price you want.
KEEP in mind the price offered by the seller at the beginning is usually at least 40% over the generally reasonable price. It can be up to 500% over.
DO have an idea of what the item costs. You can ask your friends, people in the hotel or others you know, or look at the list below. This is very general and is based(根据) on a market like Xiu Shui. In our daily life, we always come to the question “What is the real beauty?” Different people have different ideas. Last night, I read a true story from the newspaper. It’s about a poor, ordinary looking old woman. She lived alone, making a living from hand to mouth by picking things from rubbish heaps(垃圾堆). However, she took in more than ten homeless children and tried to bring them up. Every day she worked from morning to night. In order to earn as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school, ②①She got so weak because of the __________ of blood _________ she sometimes fell sick on her way home.
When asked why she chose to take care of so many children, she smiled and answered, “Oh, I love children and I like to live together with them because they always bring me great happiness.”
Though the old woman was poor, she was full of love and rich in spirit. She was loved deeply by her children. She was truly respected by the local government and people in her city.
Maybe you can’t help thinking, “What makes that poor woman so different?” it is nothing else but her inner beauty, her true devotion of love without any thought of money. So the real beauty is the beauty in one’s heart, that is, the inner beauty!

Being safe at school and in your everyday life needs knowledge. If you remember the following information, your life will be much safer.
First, if you are in a strange place, you should notice the environment around you. You shouldn’t walk alone outside. Make sure where the public phones are. School bags should be carried towards the front of your body instead of putting them on your back. When buses are crowded, it is easy enough for thieves to steal the things in your bags on your back. If you are followed by a stranger, cross the street and go in the other direction, let the stranger know that you know he or she is there. Next, go and get help from others if it is necessary. Remember not to go home directly. If you have to take a bus to a place far away, try to get to the stop a few minutes before the buses leave. This prevents a stranger from studying you. On buses, don’t sit alone, sit behind the driver or with friends. Don’t sleep.

Tom is my good friend who came to China three years ago. He is a Canadian. We have been classmates for three years. Soon he will go back to his own country with his parents.
He is tall and in good health. He wears a pair of glasses. He is easy-going, creative and organized. He is so helpful that all of us like him very much.
Last term he was chosen to be the host of the English Corner. He used to play for the school football team and he did very well.
But he has some shortcomings. He often eats too many snacks and spends too much money. I think he shouldn’t eat too many snacks. He’d better donate some of his pocket money to charity and keep his good qualities.
