We Should Balance Our Love Nowadays it is common to see that many parents focus their attention on their children, but leave their own parents without proper care. The most typical examPIe is 加 phenomenon of empty nest seniors. This problem has aroused the public、concern and has become the hot topic of many discussions.
Paying little attention to older parents can have serious consequences- First, the elderly often feel lonely and depressed if there is no chiJd with whom they can talk, and this can have a bad effect OD their mental heath. Second, the aged parents with no children by their sides can have a lot of trouble in their daily life due to disease or old age.
In my opinion, we should take the following measures. Children should be encouraged to live with or near their old parents, which is very helpful for them to know their parents，conditions and attend their daily life. And it is also necessary for them to create chances to communicate with their aged parents. Besides, our govemmeiit should strive to establish the service system for the elderly and expand its social insurance coverage among them.
On the Losing of Tyaditional Culture
It is widely noted that lots of traditional culture is dis^ppeBriitg alotig with the development of technology* Many aucient architectures and traditional ways of living have been deserted. It seems that the traditional culture and craftmanship will be replaced in this modem era.
The following reasons can account for the above phenomenon. Firstly, traditional technologies are always considered ineffective while the new sciences are always highly efficient. Secondly, it is costly to protect the traditional culture. the fund used to protect the ancient culture was instead delivered to the poor, it will be helpful to the improvement of their living standard. Thirdly，modeni science and technology facilitate both our daiJy and academic life a tot. For instance, college students always collect their thesis materials by surfing the Internet instead of borrowing books from the library.
In my opinion, although traditional culture is an ancient heritage, it couldn't keep pace with the development of society. It is the tide of history that the traditional culture and technology will no doubt be eliminated in the end.
Everyone meets setbacks and fiustratians In life, and each tries hard to avoid them, only to find tbat they’re just like your own shadow accompanying you all your
lives. The truth is，adversity can exert great influence on you, depending on how you deal with it.
When confronted with adversity, different people make different response. Some people consider it a stumbling block on the road to success, and get depressed and even sink into despair; others consider it tlbe stairway to great accomplishments and try to overcome it with constant struggle. The latter, therefore, will recognize their disadvantages from their temporary defeat, draw lessons from it, and grow stronger each time they have coped witb a difficulty.
In my opinion, adversity often leads to prosperity. Painful and depressing as it is, overcoming adversity endows us with great confidence that is crucial to achieve success. Great people are not born successful, they are great only because they have tempered their personality and remedied their deficiencies through experiencing countless adversity and defeat, which is actually a goddess of blessing in disguise.
The Importance of Goal
There is no denying that setting a goal is very important. We find tbat successful people are always those having and achieving their goals. They set goals, short-term or long-run^ to help realize their visions.
Why is goal-setting important? By setting goals you are taking control of the tempo of your life* It is like having a map to guide you to where you want to head for. With a clear direction, and with certain plans, you will straightEy get what you want. On the contrary, without a goal, you will live a wandering life. You do not know where to go, what you want and why you are lisUess, Then your life becomes dull and meaningless just like the dead water in a muddy lake.
Goals are not difficult to set and realise. First，you should make clear what you really want which constitutes your goals. Then you make detailed plans and follow through on them3 as many winners do. If you follow their suit, you’ll achieve your goals and be a winner.
More and more college students choose self-help trayelijig rather than arranged tours when they plan to travel. The reason inay be that by ananging the route, booking cheaper hotels and taking cheaper transportation means 2.W by themselves, they can save a lot of money.
Convenient and economical as self-help traveling sounds, it still has some potential problems Perhaps the most important one is the safety hazard. Being alone without a group or a tour guide, a traveler may be helpless in face of danger, i.e. robbery, wild animal attacks, etc. In addition, they are more Eikely to be at risk of getting lost when traveling alone in a strange city or in the remote
In my view, self-help traveling can be exciting and challenging which is worth trying. However, before setting out alone on a tour, travelers should make good preparations. Besides, they should hear security in mind all the time and keep ia touch with their friends or relatives. By doing soa they can enjoy the pleasure of exploring a strange city safe and sound.
Limiting tbe Buying of Cars or Not?
Beijing has placed strict restriction on the number of newly purchased car in the city and the policy bas sparked heated discussion. Some people support the policy, saying it，s a powerful method to cope with the severe traffic congestion in the capital. With cars increasing drastically in the past few years, severe traffic jams occur not only in rush hours but at any time of the day now. Others, however, aie strongly against the limitations. They argue that the great number of official cars，which are frequently used, is a big factor causing traffic congestion. But the policy mainly aims at private cars and has no dear restrictions on the use of official cars. Besides, car purchase limitation would hinder the development of China's automobile industry，and more people would lose their jobs as a result. Personally, I think the restriction of buying and use of cars, official cars incladed, is inevitable and just a matter of time for Beijing. If the number of cars is not limited, there will be a huge disaster for the environment, road resources, the travel demands of normal people and the improvement of living standards.
Giving Children Cell Phones
More and more children are showing up at school each September with cell phones. Many parents buy their children a cell phone because it is a nice safety measure. It gives those working parents a little sense of control and security to know when dietr children are off school grounds and on their way home.
But having a cell pboue might be a problem* Parents may find themselves facing a frightening bill at the end of the month. The reason: chatting on the phone and sending text messages can soon become the favorite pastime of preteens and teenagers. Worse still, cell phones in schools can lead to classroom distractions, text-message cheating and inappropriate photographs.
Knowing their chiM can always be reached is reassuring for parents. But before buying their child a cell phone, I think parents should decide if the child is really capable of managing his or her own phone. Besides，parental control must be exercised in the use of the phone. For example, they should set limits on how long the child is allowed to stay on the phone.
Should Graduates Spend Much on Job Hunting?
Nowadays college graduates spend more and more money on job hunting. According to a recent survey, almost every graduate spends some money on finding a job. And clothing, transportation, resumes producing and training expense are the main aspects that cost them a lot of money. As to this phenomenon, different people bave different views. Some say it is necessary for graduates to spend money on producing embellished resumes and buying suitable clothes, which can give interviewers a good impression and increase their chance of success. However, others don’t think so. They argue that the high expenditure can increase their parents，financial burden since most students have no regular income. Apart from that, the decorated resumes do little help to find a job because most HR managers pay more attention to skills.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong far graduates to invest some money on job hunting* But they should bear in mind that it is their knowledge, skills as well as experience that matter a lot. So they must have a rational attitude toward what they should buy and how mucb money they should spend,
Equality of Education Opportunity
Tn recent years the problems which are caused by the inequality of education opportunity have attracted the public's attention. For instance, the backward teaching facilities and dilapidated school buildings tn rural areas are in sharp contrast to those advanced facilities and well-equipped classrooms in urban areas, students from poor families can，t go to universities because of the high tuition.
There are several factors which contribute lo these problems. First, the distribution of resources is unbalanced between rural and urban schools- Second, educational loans for poor students are far from enough. Third, the inequality in some schools* admission policies also turns many studeats away. The education inequality can have many bad impacts. On the one hand, it can affect people’s future employment. On the other hand，it is the root of many social problems. To change this situation, I think, we should take the following measures. Firstly, the government spending on education should be increased and the allocation of public resources gives prbrity to rural and weak urban schools. Secondlyj the implementation of the government financial aid system for students should be accelerated. Thirdly, the government should speed up education reforms to ensure everyone has equal access to schools,
The Young Want to Be Leaders
An online survey conducted by the China Youth Daily shows that most young people (66.6%) want to be a leader, whether they serve in private companies or public sections* Only 4.8% say they are not interested in being a leader. This is especially comnionplace among people bom ia the
70s and 80s.
Some people say it is a good phenomenon that the young want to be leaders. After all, it shows that the young have great ambitions which will inspire them to work hard. Others, however, think otherwise. They argue that it only reveals so many young people are chasing fame 如d fortune, a sign that is bad for the healthy development of the young and the whole society.
Peisonallyj I believe the saying ICHe who doesn’t want to be a general isn’t a good soldier' And, it’s encouraging that we still have many young people who seek power from a mere view of the good of the people. So, I dcm^t think it anything wrong for the young desiring to have a position in the lead as long as they don’t eye it as a shortcut to fame and fortune.
We Shouldn’t Totally TUrn to the Internet
Nowadays Internet has become an indispensabie part in our 〗ife, and we use it for various purposes, such as searching useful information and chatting online. However, now more and more people turn to the Internet for help whenever they have trouble in finding solutions to their problems^ and this phenomenoD has aroused the public’s attention.
Relying on the Internet to solve all our difficulties can have bad impacts on us+ On the one hand, since we can always settle the troubles by searching solutions online, we can become very lazy and don*t bother to think up answers by ourselves, which can hinder the development of creative thinking. On the other hand, the answers online may be inaccurate or wrong. If we use them without thinking the credibility of them, we may make serious mistakes someday.
As far as I'm concerned, we shouidn^t completely depend on the Internet to settle problems* When we come across some difficulties, we’d better try our best to find possible solutions* If we make great efforts and still can’t come up with an answer, then we can surf online to search solutions. But we should question the correctness of these answers before we adopt them.
In recent years, the volunteering spirit has spread widely among the public, especially among youngsters. From Olympic Games to urban communities, many people are seen to offer free help. Volunteering is of tremendous benefit to those in need. For example, hundreds of thousands of volunteers played an active role in the recent quake-hit Yushu area: they offered medical and psychological aid to the victims in the relief work. On the other hand, volunteering is beneficial to the volunteers themselves too. Involved in volunteering activities, people are exposed to new circumstancesj and they can learn how to work well in a team and how to improve their interpersonal skills, all of which are critical for their career development.
In my view, we should all join in volunteering work as long as we have spare time. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we all volunteer in regions struck by natural disasters. There are many people eise who need our help, i.e. the old or the sick in the near nursing home. Little by EittJe, we are sure to help make the world better
Most people haven’t formed the habit of and committed themselves to waste sorting now in China. They would throw their domestic garbage — kitchen refuse, abandoned plastics and papers，broken china and glass, etc. — all into the same public containers, without'thinking whether they are recyclable or not.
This, obviously, will reduce the value of stuff that can be recycled or reused, such as plastics and papers. Besides，the growing amount of garbage makes the building of more landfills necessary, which will worsen the shortage of land. Worse still，disposing of the recyclable waste like plastics by burning will give off toxic smoke which seriously pollutes the air. ID this sense, throwing the trash unsorted should not be advocated, no matter from the perspective of economy or protecting the environment.
On the contrary, if we sort out recyclable waste before throwing them away, the amount of trash will be reduced sharply. Accordingly, the cost of runmng landfills and treating waste will be brought down greatly. Whafs more important, less waste will have to be burned or buried, meaning resources waste and pollution will be reduced. Therefore, economically and eavironmentally, it is of great significance to call for waste sorting.
减少校园浪费(Reduce Waste on Campus)
as is known to all, waste on campus has become a more and more serious problem. we can easily see many students dump a lot of food in the garbage can. some students spend thousands of yuan buying fashionable clothes and so on.
the negative effects of waste can be shown in the following aspects. in the first place, it makes some students dependent on their parents for money, which is harmful to their development. if they don’t learn to support themselves, they will be “useless people” when they graduate.
in the second place, it is not easy for our parents to arrange for our schooling. last but not the least important, there is no denying the fact that our country is still poor. there are many people who cannot go to university and many poor people still need our help.
as far as i am concerned, i should set a good example to reduce waste on campus. first of all, i will refrain from wasting anything, from food to stationery. what’s more, i’m determined to call on more schoolmates to fight against waste. only through these measures can we hope to reduce waste on campus.
为什么尊重是很重要?(Why Respect Is Important?)
why respect is importantgoing back in time, respect played an important role in survival. if we think of a small tribe wandering in the desert,we can imagine that a person not respected by anyone could be left behind and die. such a person was considered to have no worth, no importance, no value to the group.
this, i believe is the foundation of our psychological need to feel respected. nowadays it seems much more possible to survive without being respected. someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him and catering to him,yet not be respected in the least. someone could also make a lot of money through having a particular talent which is valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball yet not really be respected, perhaps because of the way he treats others.
still, there is a value to respect which money can＇t buy.
though someone＇s life might not depend on it, there are times, many times in fact, when another person has the chance to make a personal decision--a judgment call. when that person feels sincere respect for someone else, they will make a different decision than if they feel no respect, even if they have customarily shown a false, pseudo-respect to the person.
in summary, it is for both evolutionary and practical reasons that respect is important, and also why we simply feel better when we are respected.
Choosing an Occupation
One of the most important problems a young person faces is deciding what to do. There are some people, of course, who from the time they are six years old "know" that they want to be doctors or pilots or fire fighters, but the majority of us do not get around to making a decision about an occupation or career until somebody or something forces us to face the problem.
Choosing an occupation takes time, and there are a lot of things you have to think about as you try to decide what you would like to do. You may find that you will have to take special courses to qualify for a particular kind of work, or you may find out that you will need to get actual work experience to gain enough knowledge to qualify for a particular job.
Fortunately, there are a lot of people you can turn to for advice and help in making your decision. At most schools, there are teachers who are professionally qualified to give you detailed information about job qualifications. And you can talk over your ideas with family members and friends who are always ready to listen and to offer suggestions.
传统的价值观(Traditional moral values)
there's so much for me to talk about in terms of traditions of family and community as a chinese. confucius alone gave us much food for thought which is still being advocated but hardly practiced today. for example, 'self-cultivation, regulating the family, managing the nation, and establishing peace all over the world', a standard conduct of the chinese society for thousands of years, is eclipsed by individual thirst to glean more fortune.
how one's own fortune goes curtainly prevail over how a nation's does. in china the ammount of bribe money is astonishingly large and the number of corrupt officials which have been brought to the justice is not as large as those who are not yet. why do these civil servants risk their fame and even lives in defiance of law? greed and selfishness account for it. corrupton among public service is but a drop in the ocean when it comes to the demise of the morality. as i walked around the downtown the other day, i found people, with their fancy clothes and stylish hairdos ,appear
too materialistic, which is not to my liking. wasn't there a time when things were simpler and people were more humble?once bogged down in private interest, one finds oneself blinded by the greed and selfishness.
advocating the traditional moral values about family and community is definitely necessary. actually it has adopted by the chinese government as a key policy to run the coounty by combining the rule of law with the rule of virtue ,which is the essence of confucianism. i know modernization is necessary for
advancement .however ,i hope we will forget the traditional moral values along the way.
应对紧张(Dealing with tension)
caught up in the rush of life, we have forgotten how to live, how to find simple things charming.
taking a walk at night under the stars provides something that business deals cannot provides; enjoying warm sunlight, birds' songs and flowers’ fragrance is not for poets only, but for everyone. meditation, too, is a great need. meditation brings understanding of life's relationships, purposes，objectives, and rewards, sharp focus. it is an aid for tense nerves.
the only way to cope with tension is to learn how to manage one’s body and one’s mind. resting includes time in bed as well as short periods of relaxation. one may relax when walking on the street, by flexing his muscles and diverting his mind to things around him. moreover, enough time should be taken for a leisurely lunch. the most inefficient way of handing tiredness and pressure is to take stimulant or drugs.
everyone has only 24 hours a day, and a limited number of years to live. so we need to admit limitations of physical and mental strength, and to keep within those limits.
Pollution: An Increasing Concern in China
It is reported that ten big cities in China are being ranked among the top twenty cities with the highest pollution index in the world. This means it is high time we did something to bring the situation under control.
Many factors are contributing to the deteriorating situation: industrial wastes pumped into the air, the lakes and rivers; a increasing number of automobiles crowding into the streets; the widespread use of plastic bags etc.
To my view, stiffer laws and regulations must be implemented to check pollution. Industries that release wastes without permission should be heavily fined. Cars should be equipped to minimize the exhaust they release into the air. And the use of plastic bags and disposable meal boxes should be banned. What's more, the media should play an important role in implanting a sense of environmental consciousness into people's mind.
If everybody works toward a common goal of making the environment better, we can create a cleaner and lovelier world for us and for the coming generation.
Social practice has been more and more popular in universities and colleges. Students are asked to enter society and get some idea of it.
Surely social practice has many advantages. Firstly, social practice can offer students a chance to contact society and meet different kinds of people. In this way students can gain some valuable social experience, which will be useful to their future career. Secondly, students can apply what they have learned in class to practical work, thus knowing themselves more clearly. Thirdly, social practice can bring them some financial reward and make them more independent of their family. However, some problems may arise if no correct guidance is made. For example, some students get overly interested in social practice and want to work full-time and earn money, thus neglecting their studies. And some students are likely to get in touch with the dark side of society, which will affect their future studies. In order to carry out social practice smoothly, students should first know its objective. They should put their studies in the first place and see social practice
just as a useful supplement, so they ought to try to strike a balance between social practice and their studies.
手机的利与弊(Advantages and Disadvantages of the Cell Phone)
nowadays, with the rapid development of it and information industry, cell phones play a dominant role in towns people's life. but, like everything else, they have both favorable and mffavorahle aspects.first, it's useful. as a wireless mobile telephone, it's easy and handy to early to wherever one goes and call the callee however far away he is. therefore, it greatly facilitates people's life. second, it's convenient. whenever one meets trouble or something urgent, one can nmke a call immediately. most important of all, it's a very helpful companion. with a
multirfunction cell phone in hand, one can easily get on the net, browsing the useful information, conducting e-commerce and doing whatever one can do via internet. however, just as everything has two sides, the cell phone also has many
disadvantages. to begin with, it's expensive to buy and costly to pay the hills, esp. that of global service. to make matters worse, it's also easy to lose and costly to get it repaired. worst of all,it's not as clear as a family telephone and sometimes the number dialed is often not available. last but not least, it's alleged the microwaves in it might do harm to people's health. in my opinion, with its expenses greatly reduced after china's entry into the wto, it will face an ever brighter future in its development. someday most of them will be developed into new intemet-enabled mobile phones, which will be as useful as pocket computers. and i believe its advantages will not only offset its disadvantages, but also far outweigh them.
Aid Education in China
Each year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.
Aid-education has been beneficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college
volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. What's more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children.
In my opinion, China's educational development can't be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.
Lectures and Discussions
There is a heated debate over the role of lectures and discussions in the classroom. Some people believe that lectures can help students learn more quickly. In contrast, others hold that discussions can stimulate students to learn by themselves.
Those who hold the first opinion suggest that students attend more lectures. In their view, by giving lectures teachers help students master the knowledge they've accumulated over years of study and research. However, others think that in a discussion, the teacher usually guides the students instead of dominating them. They argue that to get involved in a discussion, students have to develop their ability to analyze problems independently.
In my opinion, I stand on the side of neither idea. First of all, either method has its disadvantages. Furthermore, each student has his or her preference. Thirdly, lectures ate preferable to discussions in the teaching of science subjects, and on the contrary, discussions are preferable to lectures in studying the humanities. Therefore, we should adopt different teaching methods according to different subjects．
With the increase of the number of graduated college students, the grim
employment situation is becoming a hot topic. Why such a phenomenon occurs? Except
for some social factors, there are many important affecting factors can be found on the job-hunters themselves.
When a graduate hunts for a job, he has to take the priority issue of a few significant factors into consideration, such as the pay, the specific field, the location and personal hobbies. It is reasonable. However, most of graduates usually combone all these factors toghther. In their opinions, the pay should take the first place, since they have been spending the money of the family all the time, and it’s time to do something as the reward to other family members. Besides, a high pay usually means a relatively high position in the company; the major is the number one element as well, since it would be a big waste of what they have learned in college, if they deviate from it. Meanwhile, they want to chose work which can agree with their interest and preference. Still they offer the pride of place to the location of the job and the nature of the work unit. They believe that big cities like Beijing or Shanghai will provide more opportunities, and a public situation will offer better welfare. Thereby they have to waif for employment, although they have graduated for several months.
For my part, I believe that there is more than one way to Rome, so is the way of job-hunting. The ideal mehhod for being employed is to learn to make intelligent trade-offs.
