A Lesson Taught by Grandfather
Once upon a time, there was a man who sold straw hats and strived for it everyday.
Once upon a time used, especially at the beginning of stories, to mean “a long time in the past”(用于故事的开头）从前，很 久以前： Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. 从 前，有一位漂亮的公主。(牛津高阶第7版)
? 有一天，他叫卖得十分疲惫，刚好路边有一棵 大树，他就把帽子放着，坐在树下打起盹来。 ? One day,he felt exhausted after peddling (hawking) for a long time. At that moment, he happened to see a tree on the roadside. Then, he put the hat aside, fell asleep under the tree soon. ? One day,having peddling(hawking) for a long time, he felt so exhausted that he couldn't help napping under the tree on the roadside, with the hats laid aside.
? peddle: to try to sell goods by going from house to house or from place to place.挨户
? 例：He worked as a door-to-door salesman peddling cloths and brushes. ? hawk: to try to sell things by going from place to place asking people to buy them.
等他醒来的时候，发现身边的帽子都不见了， 抬头一看，树上有很多猴子，而每只猴子的 头上，都有一顶草帽。 When he woke up,he found all the hats were gone. He looked up, finding that there were many monkeys in the tree (?), each of which was in / wore a hat.
All the hats were gone.
?他想到，猴子喜欢模仿人的动作，于是他 赶紧把头上的帽子拿下来，丢在地上；猴子 也学着他，将帽子纷纷扔在地上。 ?It occurred to him that monkeys like imitating （the behavior of ）human beings. Accordingly, he took off his hat and threw it on the ground. As expected，the monkeys did the same. ?分歧：the behavior of human beings
卖帽子的高高兴兴地捡起帽子，回家 去了。回家之后，他将这件奇特的事， 告诉了他的儿子和孙子。
Then, he picked up all the hats and went home happily. After returning home, he told his son and grandson about this fancy story.
