Pride is an emotion that you think you are better than others and because of this, you look down on others, you are competent of doing anything. It is certainly a negative emotion. As far as I am concerned, when you are very proud, you are not willing to listen to others and learn from others, thus, you are not going to make much progress like someone who is modest. For example, after the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the ROC that time, were so proud. He believed that he would wipe out the CCP in the next two years, ofcourse, he had won support from the US, and he had lots of forces, however, to his great astonishment, he lost. So we may see that one is not supposed to be so proud. And just as the proverb goes, Modesty helps one to make progress; pride makes one lag behind.
