My problems started after I went to a boarding(寄宿) school. I was only 14, and at first I misses my family a lot. I often called them and cried on the phone. But after two weeks, I found I enjoyed being with my classmates at school. I had many friends who were boys. I thought of them as my best friends – but only friends. I never guessed my friendships with boys would become a problem.
Then, three months later, my friends told me that some teachers and girls said I was hanging out with boys all day long in order to get attention from them. Seven months after that, the head teacher Mr. Wang asked the class to choose some students to join the Student Union. I thought I could win for I was doing well in school. I’d already won prizes for the best math and English exams. A week later, the list came out and it didn’t include me. I was sad.
Mr. Wang came to me and said, ―Don’t be sad. I know you’re excellent! Maybe the girls in our class. They don’t know much about you, so some of them didn’t choose you. It doesn’t matter. Do your best to get along well with everyone and I think you’ll make it next time.‖

New York is one of the last large American cities to have some of its policemen on horseback. The New York police have 170 horses working in certain parts of the city. The horses are expensive to feed, but it is even more expensive to look after them. Because the horses must walk on the streets, they need special horseshoes. In fact , they need more than 8,000 of them each year. Every police horse in New York gets new shoes every month. Keeping these shoes in good repair is the job of six blacksmiths. There are only about thirty-five of these blacksmiths in the whole United States.
The cost of shaping a horse is between twenty dollars and thirty-five dollars, and it takes a good blacksmith (铁匠)two or three hours to do the job.
A blacksmith’s job is not an easy one. He must be able to shape a shoe from a piece of metal and then fit it to the horse’s foot. The blacksmith must bend (弯曲)over all the time when he is fitting the shoe and must hold the weight of the horse’s leg while he works. Clearly, a blacksmith must be very strong. But even more important, he must be able to deal with horses---for before the blacksmith can begin his work, he has to get the horse to lift its leg.
One of the blacksmiths in New York is James Corbin. He came to the country from Ireland in 1948. He not only makes horseshoes for the police but also works for a group of horse owners near the city. Corbin became interested in blacksmithing because his father did it, and, as the puts it, ―It’s a good way to make a living.‖

When his grandpa left the room, Tom looked at the model for a while. Then he took off his shoes and looked at his own feet. Suddenly he found an easy way to paint. Tom made his feet black with paint and walked on the paper. At once, his footprints were left on the paper . Soon his grandpa came back and was angry with him, but Tom proudly said that painting the feet was the easiest thing in the world.

Should I be allowed to surf the Internet?
Recently I’ve talked with my parents about whether or not I should be allowed to surf the Internet. My parents think I should not surf the Internet often, because it’s a waste of time. Besides, on the Internet, there are so many bad thing to see: such as violence and sex. Surfing the Internet is also bad for my eyes.
However, I have some different opinions. Firstly, through the Internet I can learn newest information about the world. Secondly, I can get great help from the net. Whenever I have got any problems, I can ask for help and I always get what I want. Thirdly, I can also make friends around the world. So surfing the Internet is really helpful for us teenagers.
